Our Journey

In the beginning of February we received an email from a friend announcing an upcoming cycling expedition connecting Olympia with Beijing.  He asked us if we could accompany the group for a couple of days. Our decision process lasted a few minutes!

We immediately chose to embark on a wondrous journey through Asia covering parts of the Ancient Silk Road and crossing countries we would have most likely not have easily visited.  Danae was prepared to miss a semester of her university studies, whereas Vasilios had recently completed a renovation.

The two weeks prior to our departure were more than stressful as we had to find sponsors to cover part of our expenses, obtain the necessary visas, and arrange all our affairs in Greece to run smoothly during our six month absence.

We met almost a year ago at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki choir, and soon realized that we had many things in common besides our love for singing.  We  have been together since, sharing experiences together and enjoying the magic of communication.  After our short cycling trip in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy last summer we were certain this one would   be a challenge, both physically and mentally!

We would ride promoting peace, spreading the Olympic ideals and sharing views and experiences with the locals while trying to learn their languages and understand  their cultures. How could we say no to such an opportunity to experience life in the East, crossing Central Asia and China?

Vasilios studied psychology and became interested in psychotherapy (Georgetown University, New York University), which he practiced for  a few years in New York.  He has been through all kinds of job settings  ever since, and he is now able to have spare time to travel extensively.

Danae is a student of Fine Arts at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.  Gifted in most art forms - from music and painting, to dancing - she seeks new avenues to experience the world and herself.
